Glazed clay is one of Mexico’s most expressive ceramic traditions, shaped by generations of artisans across different pottery communities. This collection brings together handcrafted pieces inspired by regional techniques, vivid finishes, and the rich cultural identity of Mexican folk art.

Some pieces reflect the pottery traditions of Santa Fe de la Laguna in the Purépecha region of Michoacán, where red and white clays are gathered, dried, pulverized, and transformed into a workable paste before being shaped by hand. Artisans often use simple, time-tested tools, such as strong horsehair, to cut and refine the clay without damaging the form.

After the first clay body is shaped, detailed, and fired, a glaze is applied to create its distinctive shine and depth of color. In certain traditions, cobalt oxide is used to achieve rich dark tones and a luminous finish before the piece is fired a second time. Each work can require several days of careful preparation, shaping, firing, glazing, and finishing.
